 Welcome to the 2022  Virtual State Contest!

 

Attention!: The NHD Rule Book has been revised for 2021. For a list of significant changes click here

Ohio History Day contests are divided into three tiers: regional, state and national contests. All students must qualify at their regional contest to advance to the state level. Register here if you have a state qualifying Ohio History Day project!

State Qualifiers (Students): Congratulations on qualifying for the State Contest! Please click on the "Student's Main" tab for registration information and more! For detailed instructions on registering, applying for special awards, and submitting you project, see the State Qualifier Packet (coming soon). 

  • Students: you do not need to create a new account to register for the State Contest. Simply log in with the username and password used at your regional contest. If you forgot either, please email historyday@ohiohistory.org.

Returning Judges: Please note that the NHD registration system is cleared after the National Contest each year. In order to sign-up for this year's contests you will need to create a NEW account and password.

Remember: you do not need to create a new account to register for the State Contest. Simply log in with the username and password used at your regional contest. If you forgot either, please email historday@ohiohistory.org.

Students, congratulations on qualifying for the state contest!  We're so glad that you've decided to participate in History Day this year. Please make sure to read through your State Qualifier Packet thoroughly. Before you get started, there are a few things we'd like you to keep in mind:

1. Log in and complete your registration for the State Contest. Please note, you do NOT need to create a new account. Simply log in with your username and password from the regional contest. Don't remember your information? No problem - send us an email at historyday@ohiohistory.org

2. To submit your project, you must carefully review and follow the instruction in the 2022 Submission Guidelines. 

3. Remember to nominate yourself for special prizes by Monday, April 11. To be nominated, choose the awards on your registration page, AND email us a copy of your special award cover sheet, annotated bibliography and process paper for the award you apply for.

4. Each student participating in the state contest must pay a $20 registration fee. Payments will be accepted by credit card or by check. Please make checks payable to Ohio History Connection and mail to the address below.

5. Thanks to a generous donation made by the William K. Laidlaw Jr. Memorial Endowment Fund, we are delighted to offer scholarships to cover the State Competition registration cost ($20.00) for a number of students. To be considered for this scholarship, please complete the application form located here. The deadline for submission is midnight on Friday, April 8. Please note, any late submissions will not be accepted.

Student Interview Updates

  • Due to concerns from the National History Day Staff, student interviews will not be offered at the 2022 Ohio History Day State contest. We understand that this may be a disappointment for many students, judges and educators – we were saddened by this news, too. However, the equity of access to technology for students and judges, as well as privacy and protection laws surrounding students and student data, means we must refrain from conducting virtual interviews. If you have questions, please email historyday@ohiohistory.org.

Registration for the 2022 Ohio History Day State Contest opens on February 28th at 12:00 a.m. and closes on Monday, April 11th at 11:59 p.m. Late registrations will not be accepted.

Thank you for all you do in supporting your students with their History Day projects!  We're so glad that you've decided to participate in History Day this year! Since all of your students were advanced from regional contests, you do not have to create a new registration here. You can use your log-in information to check on the status of students, pay for your group, or nominate students for special awards. Thank you for your interest in judging at the 2022 Ohio History Day State Contest!  This contest will take pleace on Saturday, April 23, 2022 and serves students all throughout the state of Ohio who have qualified to advance from their local regional contest.

We are looking for teachers and professors, historians, museum professionals, and anyone with a love of history and community! The judge sign-up form allows you to request a specific History Day category that aligns with your profession or experience. If you have no preference, no problem! We'll find a category that needs your help.

Before the History Day contest you will receive your judging assignment with information on the category you will be judging and a contest rule book to read through prior to the event. The packet you receive will also contain information about how to login for judge orientation, how to judge, and other further instructions.
